This book is dedicated to all women everywhere who have been and continue to be victims of the war machine. I was particularly driven to write this collection after receiving first hand accounts of the atrocities faced by the women who became the patients at Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, South KIvu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. All proceeds from the sales of Chronicles of Violence go to Panzi Hospital, DRC

My friend, Brandi Walker, volunteered there under Dr. Mukwege. My son and I got to meet Dr. Mukwege along with Eve Ensler when they toured in the United States. Last year Dr. Mukwege received the long overdue Nobel Peace Prize. His work humbles and inspires me everyday.
The book is also dedicated to the murdered and missing women of Juarez, Mexico. Finally, it is for my Mexican great-grandmother, Josepha who never spoke again after she was raped. The product of this rape was my grandfather. He was one of the greatest man I’ve ever known, and I know some great ones.

Ilya Kaminsky on Maria’s Poetics: “Maria Garcia Teutsch is a poet who looks for lyricism and sensual flavor in our daily moments, and makes poems that ride on the human nerve, like Frank O’Hara told us the poet must.”
